Value of bispectral index monitoring during cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

A 67-yr-old man, undergoing pulmonary metastasis resection, experienced a postoperative cardiopulmonary arrest as a result of severe bleeding. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) was initiated, then bispectral index (BIS) monitoring was used which reassured the medical team of the adequacy of the resuscitation.

Prognostic evaluation of bispectral index in patients following cardiopulmonary resuscitation

The aim of this study was to evaluate the prognosis of patients following cardiopulmonary resuscitation in an intensive care unit (ICU) using bispectral index (BIS) monitoring. The study was a prospective comparative study performed at the academic department of an ICU. A total of 33 adults who received cardiopulmonary resuscitation were enrolled and divided into the surviving and non-surviving...

Usefulness of the bispectral index during cardiopulmonary resuscitation -A case report-

The usefulness of using the bispectral index (BIS) for monitoring during cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is not clearly understood. However, BIS has been a popular anesthetic monitoring device used during operations. The case presented is of a pregnant woman going into cardiac arrest due to an amniotic fluid embolism during a Cesarean section. CPR was performed, but neither the return of sp...

Bispectral index monitoring during cardiopulmonary resuscitation repeated twice within 8 days in the same patient: a case report

Research on cardiac resuscitation has led to various changes in the techniques and drug administration involved in modern advanced life support. Besides improving primary cardiac survival, interest is increasingly focused on a favourable neurological outcome. However, until now there has been no on-site equipment to support the clinical observations of the cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) te...

Conjunctival oxygen monitoring during cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

The conjunctival oxygen tension (CjO2) sensor is a non-invasive, continuous index of oxygen delivery in the haemodynamically unstable patient. Human and animal studies have indicated that CjO2 reflects cerebral blood flow and oxygenation. Simple insertion, rapid stabilization and reaction time less than 60 s allow use in the initial stages of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) where invasive m...
